Housing Assistance

For Ukrainians (HAU)

Housing Assistance for Ukrainians (HAU) is a California State program intended to provide financial support to eligible UHPs who are near financial crisis, behind on rent, and/or facing eviction

Program Overview

Housing Assistance for Ukrainians (HAU)

What does HAU Provide?

Those eligible for HAU may receive

50% of rent and utilities for up to $10,000 USD or for six consecutive months from first payment, whichever comes first.

HAU is not intended to support asset building nor to cover rental payments so other financial goals can be met, such as savings. It is designed for eligible UHPs who cannot meet their basic needs.

Who is eligible?

HAU is available to Ukrainian Humanitarian Parolees who (all must apply):

  • Have an active UHP status, or can demonstrate proof of re-parole application

  • Are near financial crisis, behind on rent, and/or have an eviction notice.

  • Can provide requested documentation to substantiate need (ie. copy of lease agreement, bank statement, pay stubs, utility bill, etc)

Ukrainian newcomers are NOT eligible if any of the following apply:

  • Are on TPS only, have never received UHP status or do not have an active UHP status or proof of submitted re-parole application

  • Are enrolled in Matching Grant or receiving other housing assistance (ie. residing with a sponsor, in Section 8 Housing, receiving other financial housing assistance)

  • Have the financial ability to pay rent (ie. earned income, savings)
